Women Medical College Abbottabad

Women Medical College Abbottabad, is situated in the scenic town of Abbottabad, about 05 km from the heart of the city on Murree Road, Nawanshehr. The calm and quiet atmosphere, abundant, greenery and cool shades provide congenial and an ideally suitable environment for learning to the students and staff. 

The college is housed in a historic building commonly known in the city as “HOTI PALACE” which is spread over an area of 50 kanals of land. Almost 60% of the area is covered by the campus building i.e. old and new and the rest 40% is comprising of lush green lawns, garden and playgrounds within the premises for the girls students under desired security measures. 

The college started its classes in 2000 and has gradually grown in size as per requirements of PM&DC (Pakistan Medical & Dental Council). The college building is detailed as below.

 

A well furnished block comprises of reception area at the entrance of the campus having a waiting lounge for visitors, offices for security and transport incharge officers. 

This block faces a lush green lawn and many huge Pine (Channar) trees with cool shades adding grandeur to the building. This block accommodates. 

a. Administration offices and a big conference room fully furnished having facilities for conferences, meetings and educational workshops etc

b. Departments of Biochemistry, Physiology and Pathology. 

A newly built multistorey block houses the 

a. Department of Anatomy 

b. Department of Pathology, Museums, Dissection Hall and two lecture halls furnished with all modern requirements of teaching and is commodious enough to accommodate more than 100 students. 

This double storey old block accommodates: Department of Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine with Museums and demonstration rooms. 

It is a separate block, facing a lush green lawn and garden, that accommodates:

a. Auditorium: A multipurpose Hall sufficient for more than 500 participant for debates/ seminars/ exam/ dramas, quiz competitions etc. 

b. A huge library, computer lab, telephone exchange, provost offices, lecture halls, multidiscipline laboratory, cafeteria, common room for girls and a staff room. 

Provides an accommodation for 300 boarders at present and will be expanded to accommodate 600 boarders in the near future according to the master plan of WMC. However the institution provides spacious accommodation for the remaining 200 students outside the main camnpus.

A separate block facing lush green lawn, accommodates Finance, Purchase and Procurement Sections, General Stores, Bookshop and a Mosque. 

Due to increasing demand in the field of dentistry the faculty of dentistry ie being incorporated into WMC. For this purpose a new block is established with fully equipped laboratories office, lecture rooms etc.
